Does Embention have experience in drone control?

Embention has been developing guidance and navigation control systems (GNC) for drones since 2007. To date, Veronte Autopilot has been integrated into over 500 unmanned autonomous drone projects covering all types of configurations; fixed-wing, helicopter, multirotor, gyrocopter, VTOL, convertibles, etc. Among the integrated aircraft, the following milestones stand out. First VTOL drone to perform transitions with a single autopilot, stratospheric flights at 65,000 ft, fixed-wing with 3500Kg MTOW, etc.

Which autopilot should be used for professional drone control?

The flexible architecture in Veronte Autopilot makes it suitable for all types of vehicle layouts. The difference between the different autopilot configurations (1x, 4x, or DRx) lies in the technical or regulatory requirements for drone development, all developed according to DO178C, DO254, and DO160G standards. Veronte Autopilot 1x is the smallest version of the autopilot, integrating sensor redundancy, ADS-B / Remote ID, 4G LTE, and LOS radio in just 190g. For aircraft requiring extra reliability, Veronte Autopilot 4x includes triple redundancy, with the ability to incorporate an external 4th dissimilar autopilot. Veronte Autopilot DRx allows defining architectures with distributed redundancy for the development of systems with zonal fault tolerance.

How can I certify my drone?

Embention products comply with various quality and aviation standards (ISO9001, EN9100, DO178C, DO254, DO160G, STANAG, etc.) to facilitate the certification of any autonomous vehicle. Embention offers customers a Veronte Autopilot certification package that includes the necessary documentation to demonstrate the autopilot's compliance with aeronautical quality standards. Additionally, Embention offers a Continuous Engineering Service, where a senior engineer is dedicated to supporting the entire certification process. This article describes the steps to complete a drone certification process using Veronte technology https://www.embention.com/en/news/do-compliant-autopilot-for-uam-uav-certification/

What are the steps to integrate a drone?

Veronte Autopilot, in any version, adds fully autonomous control capabilities to any unmanned system for full operation. This integration can be performed directly by the aircraft integrator or with the assistance of Embention personnel. The integration process begins with capturing project requirements (aircraft architecture, mission needs, peripherals, etc.). These parameters are configured in the autopilot using model-based design module and other configuration tools. To perform the first flight adjustment, it is usually recommended to generate an X-Plane aircraft model and use the HIL simulator to control it from the autopilot. In more complex configurations, it may be advisable to use a SIL simulator. Once the adjustment is made in the simulator, it is recommended to make a fine adjustment in flight, adjusting the parameters in a real flight.

Is it possible to have a 100% autonomous flight in a drone?

Yes, Veronte Autopilot is qualified as the best control system in its class for its high level of reliability, certification, and flexibility. It can plan missions that will be carried out automatically from start to finish, operate payloads, and other instruments. To ensure mission safety, the autopilot allows configuring failsafe automations to mitigate any risk in case of component failure.

Are Embention products suitable for eVTOL?

Embention stands out in the development of control systems for eVTOL, as well as with its motor controllers for certification. Veronte Autopilot technology can be adapted for the development of customized control systems for fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, multirotors, VTOL hybrid systems, or any other UAM aircraft. Veronte Autopilot combines the reliability of an aviation system with the constant innovation required in these continuously evolving systems and the ability to mass-produce aeronautical components.

Which flight controller is recommended for eVTOL / Air Taxi?

All autopilots developed by Embention comply with DO178C, DO254, and DO160G certification standards. The recommended autopilot for manned eVTOL aircraft is the Veronte 4x, with triple redundancy, integrated sensors, configurable control logic, and compliance with aircraft certification standards. These features make it the perfect choice for controlling eVTOL operating in critical scenarios or seeking to approve a certification program. For aircraft where risk analysis necessitates mitigating the possibility of zonal faults, the use of Veronte DRx autopilot with distributed redundancy is recommended. In terms of functionality, Veronte 1x autopilot is also capable of controlling this type of aircraft, with redundancy limited to sensors.

What flight modes can be configured in an eVTOL?

The Veronte 4x allows configuring custom control modes. It includes autonomous flight modes or manual fly-by-wire control modes, configurable according to the eVTOL's needs.

Is it possible to certify an eVTOL?

Yes, to address a manned aircraft certification process, Embention's autopilots and motor controllers are developed in compliance with manned aviation certification standards. Compliance with DO178C and DO254 and DO160G provides the necessary airworthiness evidence to undertake eVTOL certification. Additionally, the support offered by our specialized team guides our customers throughout this process.

What steps would need to be followed to integrate the autopilot into an eVTOL?

Veronte Autopilot, in any version, adds fully autonomous control capabilities to any unmanned system for full operation. With the support of the Embention team for its configuration, using manuals to connect peripherals, performing the first flight test will be easy. By fine-tuning the parameters, the drone will then be ready to operate with the reliability and efficiency inherent in Veronte.
