Embention is actively participating in the COLIBRÍ project, a collaborative logistics and production asset control system designed for industrial and manufacturing environments. This project is part of the “Misiones Ciencia e Innovación 2021” program, an initiative funded by the CDTI (Center for the Development of Technological Innovation) and supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. COLIBRÍ aims to revolutionize industrial processes through the implementation of advanced technologies to improve efficiency and the traceability of production assets in industrial settings.

Collaboration among multiple partners

The Colibrí Project consortium is composed of several technology companies and industrial equipment manufacturers, each contributing their expertise in different areas of the project. The companies involved in the consortium include Aerotecnic, Capgemini, Applus, ArcelorMittal, Deurser, Keonn, and Embention. Each partner plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the project’s comprehensive solution, contributing capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, sensing, cybersecurity, industrial automation, and the manufacture of intelligent drones.

Intelligent and connected asset search, inventory, and traceability system

The primary objective of the COLIBRÍ project is to research and merge advanced technologies to create an integrated system for asset search, inventory, and traceability, utilizing smart and connected solutions. Key technologies in the project include the hybridization of physical and digital environments, achieved through the use of advanced sensing, artificial intelligence, and the implementation of digital twins. Additionally, COLIBRÍ places a strong emphasis on the reliability of industrial assets and their digital traceability throughout the entire production process.

One of the most innovative features of COLIBRÍ is the creation of collaborative environments, where a new concept of intelligent, connected industrial drone plays an essential role. This drone is capable of operating autonomously in production environments, even indoors, and can interact safely with people and other equipment. This approach not only improves asset handling efficiency but also optimizes workflows in complex industrial environments.

Embention’s contribution to the Colibrí Project

Embention is making a significant contribution to the development of the COLIBRÍ project, particularly in the area of autonomous drone navigation in industrial environments. The company is responsible for developing vision-based algorithms that allow for precise drone localization indoors, without the need for GPS, which is crucial in enclosed spaces where GPS signals are not viable.

In addition, Embention is working on the implementation of advanced obstacle detection systems, such as for people, other drones, and objects, ensuring that drones can operate safely in complex and collaborative environments. These technological advancements not only improve asset management efficiency but also contribute to the development of safer and more accurate solutions for industrial automation.

Next steps

Recently, the consortium partners of the COLIBRÍ project gathered for a new General Assembly, which took place at Deuser’s facilities in Córdoba. During this meeting, which was also attended by representatives from the CDTI, the progress made so far was shared, and the next steps for completing the project were discussed. Strategies and tasks were defined for the final stages of the project.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress in the various areas of the project and to adjust the working approach of the different teams, ensuring that deadlines are met and the project is successfully completed. As the COLIBRÍ project progresses, the companies involved remain committed to innovation and the creation of technological solutions that will revolutionize the industry of the future.
